What Cloth Remembers is a custom Bojagi commission that transforms meaningful textiles—clothing, scarves, family fabrics, inherited cloth, and other treasured materials—through the art of stitching, connecting us to the memories they carry while giving the cloth a new life. Inspired by Jogakbo, the Korean tradition of joining pieces of cloth through stitching, each commission gives meaningful fabric a new life and a new form. The stitches become more than a way of joining cloth—they create a connection between the fabric’s past and its new story, keeping us connected to the memories it carries. The result is a personal work of art that honors what the fabric has held while allowing its story to continue.

A Piece of Your Story

Your commission begins with a textile that holds meaning for you—a favorite piece of clothing, a scarf, an inherited family textile, or even a small piece of fabric connected to someone, somewhere, or a moment you want to remember.To begin, simply share a few photographs of the fabric and tell me a little about its story. We’ll then explore how it might be transformed through Bojagi, including the form, size, colors, and Korean textiles that may complement the original cloth. There is no need to send the fabric until we have discussed the commission together.

Honoring the Cloth

Each textile is approached individually, with attention to its material, condition, color, and the story it carries. Depending on the piece, your fabric may be joined with carefully selected Korean textiles such as Mosi, Oksa silk, Nobang silk, Sukgosa silk, Myungju silk, and Saekdong silk.
Traditional Bojagi stitching brings these different fabrics together, allowing the original cloth to remain present within its new form while carrying its story forward.

After receiving your inquiry, I’ll contact you by email and ask for a few photographs of your textile.

3. Explore the Possibilities
Together, we’ll discuss the design, size, colors, and Korean textiles that can complement your fabric.

4. Send Your Textile
Once we agree on the direction for your piece, you’ll receive instructions for safely sending your textile.

5. Your Story Takes New Form
Through Bojagi composition and stitching, your textile is given a new form while carrying its memories forward.
